Is this late? The obsessive compulsive side of me doesn’t like that this is coming after the “Happy 2010!” post. Ok, I’ll deal. So will you I hope.
Anyway, I saw everyone doing their 2009 lists – lists of accomplishments, favourites, etc., and wanted my own. But then this year wasn’t a lot of firsts or accomplishments for me and I felt really inadequate, so I just avoided it. BUT, I wouldn’t feel right not having my own list, so I’m just going to put together a jumbled list of what I remember and therefore what must have been the most significant. There will be an emphasis on celebrities and TV shows, but these are two of my favourite things, so you really shouldn’t be surprised. Also note, in my attempt to make this list more valid, everything is in chronological order… go me!

1. My newfound obsession with Russell Brand flowed from 2008 straight into 2009. January was full of repeated viewings of Shame, Doing Life, Ponderland, and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2006 & 2007. Actually, this is highly appropriate for a post about 2009 since Russ is back for 2009’s Big Fat Quiz of the Year!
2. Matt Smith was cast as the eleventh doctor to replace David Tennant in Doctor Who. Immediately after hearing the news and seeing an interview with Matt Smith, I decided I was in love with him and was going to become a Doctor Who fan just to show my support… needless to say, this didn’t happen, but I still hold a small appreciation for Matt Smith. Maybe one day I will actually watch an episode of Doctor Who, who knows? (I know all you Doctor Who fans are cringing or considering closing your tab right now… sorry!)
3. January also marked a huge first for me – my first Bollywood movie! No, I wasn’t cast in one, I just watched one – Dostana – a movie about two men who pretend to be gay just so that they can rent an apartment. They also fall in love with the same girl. Drama! It was fun! I kind of understood what they were saying, but thank god for subtitles. Along with the undeniable eye candy, it was a great first experience. No, I haven’t seen another Bollywood movie since then. Maybe I’ll add that to my list of resolutions?

4. I got my BlackBerry and said goodbye to my pink Razr (I know, I know – I held onto it for too long didn’t I?).
5. Never did I think that I would become a fan of that kid from High School Musical, but something changed when the 17 Again promos started coming out…. and then when 17 Again actually came out, that was it. And this was a different kind of love, not the temporary, fleeting kind (see Matt Smith), but a more meaningful kind. Uh, stop judging me, go watch 17 Again.
6. After watching every season of Laguna Beach and The Hills, this was the year that I could take no more. This means one of two things – either I finally grew out of “reality” shows this year, or The Hills hit a new low, even for The Hills. Congrats guys.
7. TUMBLR! No, Tumblr wasn’t introduced this year, but this was the year I joined, therefore the year that counts. If you haven’t joined yet, what are you waiting for?! Where else will you get to post random pictures and videos without any explanation required? Microblogging is the way to go. Having made 2732 posts since May, you can trust me on that.

8. Prison Break ended this year, Michael and Lincoln were finally able to escape prison… permanently. I thought they deserved a kudos here. I for one enjoyed every season, and the movie. I miss you guys already!
9. Gossip Girl fans everywhere died a little inside when Chuck and Blair finally got together – wait, was that just me? Either way, one of the highlights of 2009 I would say.
10. Public Enemies. Johnny Depp. Christian Bale. Do I need to say anything else?
11. Post Grad wasn’t the most awesome movie ever, but boy, could I relate. What am I going to do when I finally graduate? Hmmm… maybe I too will have the opportunity to give up the perfect job to be with the guy of my dreams. Hey, a girl can dream.

12. The Fame came out in 2008, but 2009 was clearly the year of Gaga – and when I finally decided to give her a try. Thank god, because I don’t know if I would have had my daily dose of pop music otherwise.
13. Inglourious Basterds. Awesome.
14. I got my 24″ iMac this year and finally joined the Mac club. I can say with 100% certainty that this was the happiest day of my life.
15. You probably haven’t heard of Howie Day. And if you have, all you most likely know him for is Collide, when really, he should be know for his first album, Australia. Anyway, fans waited SIX years for a new album, and finally, this year, Sound the Alarm came out. Here’s a biased review: it was perfect.

16. Mad Men – for having an amazing season this year. One of the best shows on TV right now.
17. newyorkcanwait.com is born. I blog… once in awhile.
18. I’m not a fan of American Idol, but Adam Lambert’s album, For Your Entertainment, is one of my favourites this year. “There he goes, my baby walks so slow, sexual tic tac toe“, I could leave it on repeat for the next five years.
19. I started the year watching Russell Brand and ended it by marathoning all six seasons of Sex and the City. I wouldn’t have spent my limited Internet allowance (thanks Rogers) any other way.
If you made it through the list, well done! If you just skimmed through the pictures, don’t worry, I forgive you. Here’s to 2010, may it be filled with a lot more to blog about!
