Don’t push your Chuck.

Just so you guys know, I was debating between this title and “You’ve lost your muchness”, in the end I chose Gossip Girl over Alice in Wonderland, even though Gossip Girl doesn’t deserve shit from me right now.

Did that sound bitter? I’m not bitter. I’m not disappointed. Gossip Girl has completely lived up to expectations. Season 2 and 3 have been just as brilliant as Season 1. Jenny is my favourite character. They’re totally employing Kevin Zegers’ full potential and not making me dislike him. Dan and Vanessa are a match made in heaven, not to mention, Dan looks ravishing in a wife beater. Chace Crawford deserves an Emmy for his acting. I love how he much he’s learned and grown as an actor. Blair is totally back to Queen B status and I love it. Chuck’s storyline does him so much justice. And his mom is so cool, I want to be her when I grow up. Serena is totally not a whore and I want to model my life after hers. Rufus is the best husband ever, I’d be lucky to meet a man half as epic as he is.

Moving on.

I saw Alice in Wonderland this week. With my two siblings, AND my two little cousins. It was such a family affair. 3D glasses are great for photo-ops aren’t they? Sara is totally rocking a jean jacket by the way, AND polka dot pants. Bold. Very bold.

Alice

As for the movie, I really enjoyed it. I think it helped that I went in with low expectations. I really liked all of the characters, especially the Hatter and Red Queen, obviously. Who else sensed a ton of sexual tension between Alice and Mad Hatter? I was dying for them to just jump on top of each other or something… And the scene at the end with the Hatter was heartbreaking, poor guy. I also enjoyed the White Queen’s constant hand gestures. Very convincing. Some really great lines as well, aside from losing your muchness – imagining six impossible things before breakfast, “I’m investigating things that begin with the letter M”, and of course “You’re mad, bonkers, off your head! But I’ll tell you a secret: All the best people are.” Really sweet.

I’ve heard people saying Johnny Depp’s dancing at the end was awkward and out of place, but I loved it! Futterwagoning for the win. Am I right or am I right?

List #53487

Canada <3

  1. I am so proud of Canada and all its gold medals! In support, I wore my Canada Joe Boxers today. Go team!
  2. Don’t you love it when you find someone the perfect birthday present and then they go out and buy the exact same thing for themselves before you get a chance to give it to them?! Ya, me too.
  3. I am so ridiculously and irrationally attracted to Joe Tobin on Damages this season, there’s just something about him. I love how grave he always is. That’s the best word to describe him. Grave. His best moment so far: “Everything you have in life, you have because of my father. Well, he’s gone now. And I can take it all away from you. Do you understand me?” Brilliant.
  4. I had way too many cherry timbits this week.
  5. I cannot motherfucking wait for Wall Street 2/Money Never Sleeps, you guys have no idea.
  6. Why do they need to return midterms so soon after we’ve finished them? Can’t I celebrate my freedom for another minute before you crush all my hopes and dreams and remind me that I’m screwing up my life by procrastinating?
  7. I can’t bring myself to watch Project Runway this season. Sigh, it’s so sad. I miss Santino and Daniel Franco and, and and, that other Daniel kid whose last name I can’t spell.
  8. If you invite me to another Facebook group, event, fanpage, WHATEVER again, that I have absolutely no interest in, nor will I for the rest of my life, I am unfriending you. Period. I mean, what can you say about humanity when the fanpage “I Hate When One String of My Hoodie Becomes Longer Than the Other” has 1,233,684 fans?
  9. Another thing, what exactly is the point of boots that soak right through as soon as you step into a puddle? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
  10. It really would have been nice if I’d had a tenth point to make this all nice and even.

OMG, where did you go?

Hey, hi, hello, etc. to my 3 or 4 very dedicated readers, I’ve missed you guys! It’s been exactly twenty days since I last blogged – okay, now it’s been seven days since I started this draft. Terrible right? Trust me, the last thing I think about before I go to sleep every night is “uh! I should’ve blogged!” Anyway, let’s make a list.

  1. I had a birthday sometime between my last blog and this one, it was amazing, mainly because I have awesome friends, but that totally deserves its own blog (and the narcissist in me likes stretching my birthday out as long as possible).
  2. Avatar deserves all the hype it’s getting, I don’t care what anyone says.
  3. Rob Lowe is leaving Brothers & Sisters. I have to say, I’ve been really good about B&S, saying “ohh, they’ll be fine, just a rough patch blah blah blah”, but the episodes aren’t getting any better! And now one of my favourite characters is leaving and breaking up Robert + Kitty in the process. Why is it that all my favourite shows are in some sort of downward spiral? Must all good things really come to an end? Come on Brothers & Sisters, GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!
  4. On that note, kudos to Ugly Betty for actually having a really awesome season. Of course, it could be its last one, which is just too painful to think about.

WAIT WAIT WAIT. Since starting this draft, Ugly Betty HAS been cancelled. Ugh. I’m still in mourning so it’s really hard to type this right now. I just can’t believe I’ll never see my sweet sweet Daniel Meade again after this season. Or Marc. Or Amanda. Clearly I made my top 6 cancelled shows list too soon. Why why why, for once in my whole life, can’t a creative, smart show fucking stay on the air? Anyway, R.I.P. Ugly Betty, you will be missed.

  5. I’m on a Grey’s Anatomy hiatus. I’m taking a break. Maybe I’ll be back, who knows? The season started out pretty promising, but in the end, Grey’s still has that tendency to piss me off without a moment’s notice. Maybe I’m still not over George dying (and Shonda Rhimes’ need to kill off characters to make a point or whatever it is that was). Not to mention the fact that I will probably cringe at the thought of ever visiting Seattle in the future since it seems it’s always dark and raining over there.
  6. Private Practice on the other hand – I can’t believe the same people are responsible for it. Every episode is like candy. My favourite show right now.
  7. Since we’re on the topic of Shonda Rhimes – ANOTHER medical drama? Really? Did Shonda Rhimes have dreams of going to med school during her undergrad that were never fulfilled? I know I sound like a hypocrite, having watched Grey’s and Private Practice religiously up until now, but I think it’s safe to say we have enough medical dramas now. Are there no other careers in the world to focus on? Are creativity and originality dead? Oh wait, my bad, creative, original shows get cancelled. NEXT.
  8. I have the worst midterm schedule in the history of midterm schedules and two projects due for work. So if the stress doesn’t eat me alive over the next few weeks, I might just blog again. Anyway, I leave you with my Ugly Betty tribute. I might have gotten just a little carried away screenshotting, oh well, it’s not like I have studying to do or anything.

Re: 2009

Is this late? The obsessive compulsive side of me doesn’t like that this is coming after the “Happy 2010!” post. Ok, I’ll deal. So will you I hope.

Anyway, I saw everyone doing their 2009 lists – lists of accomplishments, favourites, etc., and wanted my own. But then this year wasn’t a lot of firsts or accomplishments for me and I felt really inadequate, so I just avoided it. BUT, I wouldn’t feel right not having my own list, so I’m just going to put together a jumbled list of what I remember and therefore what must have been the most significant. There will be an emphasis on celebrities and TV shows, but these are two of my favourite things, so you really shouldn’t be surprised. Also note,  in my attempt to make this list more valid, everything is in chronological order… go me!

Russell Brand, Matt Smith & Dostana

1. My newfound obsession with Russell Brand flowed from 2008 straight into 2009. January was full of repeated viewings of Shame, Doing Life, Ponderland, and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2006 & 2007. Actually, this is highly appropriate for a post about 2009 since Russ is back for 2009’s Big Fat Quiz of the Year!

2. Matt Smith was cast as the eleventh doctor to replace David Tennant in Doctor Who. Immediately after hearing the news and seeing an interview with Matt Smith, I decided I was in love with him and was going to become a Doctor Who fan just to show my support… needless to say, this didn’t happen, but I still hold a small appreciation for Matt Smith. Maybe one day I will actually watch an episode of Doctor Who, who knows? (I know all you Doctor Who fans are cringing or considering closing your tab right now… sorry!)

3. January also marked a huge first for me – my first Bollywood movie! No, I wasn’t cast in one, I just watched one – Dostana – a movie about two men who pretend to be gay just so that they can rent an apartment. They also fall in love with the same girl. Drama! It was fun! I kind of understood what they were saying, but thank god for subtitles. Along with the undeniable eye candy, it was a great first experience. No, I haven’t seen another Bollywood movie since then. Maybe I’ll add that to my list of resolutions?

BlackBerry, Zac Efron, The Hills, and Tumblr

4. I got my BlackBerry and said goodbye to my pink Razr (I know, I know – I held onto it for too long didn’t I?).

5. Never did I think that I would become a fan of  that kid from High School Musical, but something changed when the 17 Again promos started coming out…. and then when 17 Again actually came out, that was it. And this was a different kind of love, not the temporary, fleeting kind (see Matt Smith), but a more meaningful kind. Uh, stop judging me, go watch 17 Again.

6. After watching every season of Laguna Beach and The Hills, this was the year that I could take no more. This means one of two things – either I finally grew out of “reality” shows this year, or The Hills hit a new low, even for The Hills. Congrats guys.

7. TUMBLR! No, Tumblr wasn’t introduced this year, but this was the year I joined, therefore the year that counts. If you haven’t joined yet, what are you waiting for?! Where else will you get to post random pictures and videos without any explanation required? Microblogging is the way to go. Having made 2732 posts since May, you can trust me on that.

Prison Break, Chuck & Blair, Public Enemies, & Post Grad

8. Prison Break ended this year, Michael and Lincoln were finally able to escape prison… permanently. I thought they deserved a kudos here. I for one enjoyed every season, and the movie. I miss you guys already!

9. Gossip Girl fans everywhere died a little inside when Chuck and Blair finally got together – wait, was that just me? Either way, one of the highlights of 2009 I would say.

10. Public Enemies. Johnny Depp. Christian Bale. Do I need to say anything else?

11. Post Grad wasn’t the most awesome movie ever, but boy, could I relate. What am I going to do when I finally graduate? Hmmm… maybe I too will have the opportunity to give up the perfect job to be with the guy of my dreams. Hey, a girl can dream.

Lady Gaga, Inglourious Basterds, iMac, & Howie Day

12. The Fame came out in 2008, but 2009 was clearly the year of Gaga – and when I finally decided to give her a try. Thank god, because I don’t know if I would have had my daily dose of pop music otherwise.

13. Inglourious Basterds. Awesome.

14. I got my 24″ iMac this year and finally joined the Mac club. I can say with 100% certainty that this was the happiest day of my life.

15. You probably haven’t heard of Howie Day. And if you have, all you most likely know him for is Collide, when really, he should be know for his first album, Australia. Anyway, fans waited SIX years for a new album, and finally, this year, Sound the Alarm came out. Here’s a biased review: it was perfect.

Mad Men, NYCW, Adam Lambert, & Sex and the City

16. Mad Men – for having an amazing season this year. One of the best shows on TV right now.

17. newyorkcanwait.com is born. I blog… once in awhile.

18. I’m not a fan of American Idol, but Adam Lambert’s album, For Your Entertainment, is one of my favourites this year. “There he goes, my baby walks so slow, sexual tic tac toe“, I could leave it on repeat for the next five years.

19. I started the year watching Russell Brand and ended it by marathoning all six seasons of Sex and the City. I wouldn’t have spent my limited Internet allowance (thanks Rogers) any other way.

If you made it through the list, well done! If you just skimmed through the pictures, don’t worry, I forgive you. Here’s to 2010, may it be filled with a lot more to blog about!

If you two want to kiss, it won’t count as cheating

A few things, do you guys like lists? Okay, great!

  • Best news first! I got to go to a press screening of Me and Orson Welles today! All thanks to canadawhore =) Can I just say, Zac Efron is a god? He’s pretty AND talented! All fangirling aside, the movie was also pretty good, Christain Mckay was amazing as Orson. Don’t let Zefron sway you away from giving it a chance when it comes out!
  • Mad Men finale! Wow, what an amazing show. I have no words for this episode. It was perfect. Not one line out of place. I can’t wait to see what Sterling-Cooper-Draper-Pryce get up to next season. And Betty! She’s my new idol. Henry Francis… I don’t know about him, I guess we’ll see. Just one thing, does this mean goodbye to Ken?!
  • Eastwick got cancelled! I can’t say I didn’t see it coming, but I’m going to miss it. I hate when shows get cancelled! Do you think my last blog jinxed it?
  • Gossip Girl last night: ugh. What was that threesome? What were they thinking? Did VANESSA have to be involved? And Lizzie McGuire? My bad, I mean, Hilary Duff. Scratch that, I mean Olivia. Needless to say, involving Chuck would have been a win, but Dan – fine, I’ll take it. Olivia and Vanessa though? Really? Not to mention, it was awkward. And nothing even happened on screen! I felt like Dan and Vanessa making out was some form of incest. Poor Vanessa. I don’t know if her character could possibly get more lame. Maybe something good will come out of this though. The preview for next week looks promising. I’m looking forward to Olivia vs Vanessa. Do you think they can salvage this season? I don’t know guys, I don’t know. Oh and Chuck won for best line, as usual, see headline.
  • Finally, after the press screening, we walked into Chapters, and right there, practically calling my name, was a shelf full of copies of John Irving’s new book, Last Night in Twisted River – how could I not have bought it? Actually, that’s what I’m going to get to now, so if you’ll excuse me…
